Highlights

Congratulations to our PhD student Naima Andrea López who received the UWA 3Rs Animal Ethics Award for her contribution to addressing the 3Rs (Reduction, Refinement, and Replacement) on animal research. It is of paramount importance that research methods used to study endangered species do not result in further stress to the animals and her research is pioneering the use of drones as a non-invasive tool to study scalloped hammerhead aggregations in Western Australia. The UWA Animal Ethics Office grants one $5000 award per year to academics or postgraduates based on their contribution and innovations to address the 3Rs in animal research, and we are thrilled they selected her research project this year.
