Masters title: Conservation Implications of Land-Based Trophy Shark Fishing.

Although commercial fishing is a well-recognised threat to sharks worldwide, less information exists with respect to the effect of recreational targeting of sharks, and in particular to land-based trophy shark fishing. Land-based trophy fishing may have a significant negative impact on threatened shark populations in Australia. I aim to elucidate the activity in Australia by using social media and survey questionnaires to document the scale, assess the threat to at-risk shark species and develop an overall understanding of the perceptions and practices of anglers. The findings from this study will support improved conservation and management of sharks in Australian waters by equipping managers with a clear understanding of the scale and drivers of the activity.
