Expeditions

The Marine Futures Lab deploys both mid-water BRUVS and seabed BRUVS on expeditions around the world.

To date, we have completed 84 mid-water BRUVS expeditions in 48 locations globally with a total of 8,827 deployments. We have recorded 188,984 individual animals from 113 families (or higher classifications of order and class) of fish, invertebrates, marine mammals and marine reptiles.

We have also completed 70 seabed BRUVS expeditions in 33 largely Australian locations with a total of 9,396 deployments. We have recorded 686,858 individual fish from 1,579 taxa representing 179 families (or higher classifications of order and class) of fish, invertebrates, marine mammals and marine reptiles.

We are committed to making data available to colleagues and other interested parties under FAIR Principles without, in particular, requiring co-authorships.
Data can be downloaded at the FishBase BRUVS portal and we ask that you cite multi-location data as: Marine Futures Lab (YEAR), unpublished data available from https://www.fishbase.org/bruvs/search.php.

If single-location data are used, please include the specific location in the citation and the funders in your location: Marine Futures Lab (Year), unpublished data for (Location) available from https://www.fishbase.org/bruvs/search.php.

FishBase and its sibling SeaLifeBase are critical research infrastructure that support aquatic research and policy on a global basis. We ask that you consider making a donation to FishBase and SealifeBase when using data that is curated on these sites.
